The King Of Kong

Client: New Line Home Entertainment

In an effort to combat the stigma attached to “special features” on DVDs, iam8bit pitched New Line the idea of producing a collection of “unexpected” bonus material for director Seth Gordon‘s hero vs. villain opus, The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters — things that would compliment and expand the mythos of the film, rather than just being merely supplementary.. The result was an array of original content, including a one-minute animated short entitled A Really, Really Brief History of Donkey Kong (winner of a bunch of fancy awards); a “regular guy,” feature-length commentary track from iam8bit founder, Jon M. Gibson, and IGN.com editorial director, Chris Carle, fueled by tequila, beer and hot sauce shots; and an alternate cover by acclaimed artist Scott C, visible merely by flipping over the DVD insert, which has sold hundreds of 18×24″ art prints at galleries, retail shops and conventions since its unveiling.
