We are very excited about our next show, opening THIS FRIDAY! It's called NOTEBOOK NERD, the much-anticipated solo exhibition from artist JIM RUGG. Mr. RUGG, the Swiss Army Knife of artists (and longtime iam8bit collaborator, since all the way back to 2005), gives us an insane perspective inside his brainhole, exposing the terrors and delights that populate his thoughts every, single day. While his comics "Street Angel" and "Afrodisiac" have already been dubbed classics by the indie scene, Rugg's art in this show is different. It's truly an exercise in precision. His only tool: the mighty ballpoint pen. And his unlikely canvas: spiral-bound notebook paper. And as a special treat, Mr. Rugg will be in attendance... all the way from Pennsylvania! Opening Extravaganza Friday, May 25 7 until 11pm FREE ADMISSION! ALL AGES! TASTY BEVERAGES! RSVP to Facebook iam8bit 2147 W. Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90026 More information here...
Jason Brockert's paintings for his solo show, AMERICAN ICONS, just arrived... and hot damn, are they really fucking beautiful! Since we're suckers for documenting everything, Nick grabbed his camera as I (carefully) Xacto'd and peeled away dozens of layers of cellophane to reveal all 30 original paintings.
The opening of Licorice Flix is almost here and our excitement has reached an all-time new high. Artist Jason Mecier has immortalized some of the best moments in Hollywood history using Red Vines, a movie night classic.
Finally, we can share the news! Quietly, we've been toiling with one of our most favorite companies, the mad geniuses of quality at ASTRO Gaming, to bring you the ultimate collaborative project. Beyond just their sheer excellence in engineering, the coolest aspect of ASTRO's A30 and A40 headsets is the ability to customize the "speaker tags" with any image you want. So in concert with our audio-obsessed pals at ASTRO, we'd like to formally announce the "SPEAKER TAG DESIGN COMPETITION". Rather than barrage you with details, we've created a tidy home for the contest on Facebook. The best part is, EVERYONE gets to vote on the winning designs, and those with the most outrageously positive responses will walk away with plenty ASTRO and iam8bit "limited edition" gear! Trust us, it's worth a few nights of sketching for the bountiful prize packs that await. Now get designing! The competition ends on September...
Everyone! Thank you so much! Opening night for SUPER iam8bit was amazing, awesome and amazingawesome. Huge props to the over 1,000 people who came and checked out all of the madness in person. And if you couldn't make it, remember we're open Thursdays through Sundays until September 10! Click here to find out more about the iam8bit gallery and SUPER iam8bit, including directions and hours. And of course, admission is always free. Also check out just some images from the night thanks to the super talented Dave Tada.
ithout further ruckus, we've got a very exciting announcement to make: The group art show that ravished the world of all its precious, videogame retro-ness four times in a row is returning for a fifth go at it. Since this is such a seminal number (five shows, that is), we've decided to upgrade the name a little bit: SUPER iam8bit Opening Night Extravaganza August 11, 2011 7pm to 11pm All-night ambiance by DJ R-Rated With special performances by Leeni and A_Rival We'll be hosting the event at the recently renovated iam8bit headquarters in glorious Echo Park: - 2147 W. Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90026 - It's going to be bigger and bolder than ever before, as we have over 4,500 sq. ft. of event space (that's nearly 5 times the size of the original show in 2005)! Over 100 artists will reimagine their 80's gaming fantasies, delusions and secret desires...
We're super excited to announce that our next book, SUPER iam8bit: More Art Inspired By Classic Video Games of the ’80s, is being printed as you read this (unless you're reading this a few days from when it was posted, then you're just late). Much like the first book, this edition will let your inner geek and art nerd join as one in printed nirvana. Like Voltron. We'll be taking pre-orders very soon here on iam8bit.com, and the book will also be available in our new store and gallery in August (at a soon to be disclosed location in Los Angeles). Until then, check out the link below that our buddies at Hexanine put together for an awesome, behind-the-scenes sneak peek. They're the fine fellas who designed this entire second volume, and they're also co-publishing it with us via their Plastic Highway imprint. CLICK TO READ!
An energetic (albeit brief) glimpse at the opening gala for the fourth installment of the ever-popular iam8bit exhibition, held in Hollywood at the World of Wonder Storefront Gallery on August 14, 2008. Nearly 2,000 attendees waited in line for hours on the historic "Walk of Fame," proving to be the most successful iam8bit since its inaugural exhibit in 2005. Seu browser não suporta iframes. SUPER iam8bit, the next art show will launch this August along with a new book. Stay tuned for more details!
