Since we're suckers for documenting everything, Nick grabbed his camera as I (carefully) Xacto'd and peeled away dozens of layers of cellophane to reveal all 30 original paintings.

For all you LA locals out there, you may have heard about the cancellation of Sunset Junction.

Well, in the last 24 hours, we've been working diligently with our local community of businesses, and have very speedily formed a weekend event hereby known as ECHO PARK RISING.

It's an assemblage of many things:

• PERFORMANCES, with many of the bands and DJs left in the wake of Sunset Junction taking refuge at several wonderful Echo Park venues
• SHOPS & GALLERIES, with plenty of places around Echo Park offering exclusives deals and discounts
• RESTAURANTS & BARS, each offering drink specials, free treats and the like

For performances, the lineup is incredibly strong and still growing:

Quietly, we've been toiling with one of our most favorite companies, the mad geniuses of quality at ASTRO Gaming, to bring you the ultimate collaborative project.

Beyond just their sheer excellence in engineering, the coolest aspect of ASTRO's A30 and A40 headsets is the ability to customize the "speaker tags" with any image you want. So in concert with our audio-obsessed pals at ASTRO, we'd like to formally announce the "SPEAKER TAG DESIGN COMPETITION".

Rather than barrage you with details, we've created a tidy home for the contest on Facebook.

The best part is, EVERYONE gets to vote on the winning designs, and those with the most outrageously positive responses will walk away with plenty ASTRO and iam8bit "limited edition" gear! Trust us, it's worth a few nights of sketching for the bountiful prize packs that await.

We'll be hosting the event at the recently renovated iam8bit headquarters in glorious Echo Park:

It's going to be bigger and bolder than ever before, as we have over 4,500 sq. ft. of event space (that's nearly 5 times the size of the original show in 2005)!

Over 100 artists will reimagine their 80's gaming fantasies, delusions and secret desires via all sorts of media - painting, sculpture, plush, and even some more interactive experimentation. Highlights include:

*A special tribute to Galaga's 30th anniversary featuring the world's largest "arcade cabinet"
* The transformation of the entire gallery into an 80's gaming wonderland by designer decal collective BLIK
*An interactive, "retro-fied" Kinect hack from Double Fine super-artist Drew Skillman
*And much, much more!

Oh yes, there's more!

Collecting pieces from the iam8bit archives, SUPER iam8bit is the sequel to the best-selling (and totally awesome) iam8bit book. It features 160 beautiful pages of radical, videogame-inspired art by over 80 artists, as well as a foreword by host & producer of Attack of the Show, Kevin Pereira. The book was designed by the wonderful folks over at Hexanine, and co-published with the similarly likeminded guys at Plastic Highway.

Soon enough, you'll be able to pre-order the book on our fancy new website, but for now, you'll just have to salivate uncontrollably.

We'll be making plenty more announcements in the coming weeks, including the full artist roster, but until then, feel free to assault our inboxes.
